Biography

Born in Chalfont St Giles, England, in 1963, Clive made his concert debut with his first band The Mysterons in 1979. Played first solo gig in 1980 at the High Wycombe College Students Union Bar. In 1982 he teamed up with violinist Gary Williams to play acoustic gigs as duo. Released debut LP Village Tours Start Here in 1983, followed by Stretching Arms And Legs (1985), and Songs From An Untidy Bedroom (1986). Product and Williams joined by Hugh Gascoyne (bass) and Nigel MacKenzie (drums) for The Care Assistant (1988).

In 1988 Clive signed a one-off deal with Billy Bragg´s Utility label who, a year later, released Financial Suicide, a collection of previously issued Product songs. Shortly after moving to Berlin in 1990, Clive released the LP Fate On A Plate (1992). Between ´93 and ´97 he wrote and edited the fanzine Big Untidy, which eventually led to the publication of a book, Beautiful Extremes: Conversations With Kevin Coyne , in 1999.

In recent years Clive has recorded several albums worth of new material, including Shooting Stars (2000), Skeleton Songs (2002), Broken Pieces (2004) and No-One Should Drink Alone (recorded with Grae J Wall, 2006). A cover of Kevin Coyne's A Loving Hand was included on Whispers From The Offing: A Tribute To Kevin Coyne (released on Life And Living Records, 2006).

Clive also guested on Nikki Sudden's version of Marlene (also included on Whispers...). Following Sudden's death, Clive appeared at the Nikki Sudden Tribute Concert in Berlin in 2006, and contributed to a tribute EP Road Of Broken Dreams (along with Grae J Wall, Martti Mäkkellä and Clark Nova) released in 2008.

Clive has also toured and recorded as part of The Anglo-German Low Stars, along with fellow misfits Grae J Wall, Andy Keeble, Harry Coltello, Erich and Martti Mäkkelä. Their notorious film soundtrack The Night Of The Amazon was released on 9pm Records in 2001. A new Low Stars album, recorded in 2003, still awaits release.
